Hisako Kanemoto, who replaced Taneda in event anime & OVA, will play Erina in season 3

The official website for the Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma anime announced on Monday that Risa Taneda will not reprise the role of Erina Nakiri for the anime's third season. Hisako Kanemoto will instead voice the character.

The online announcement noted that Taneda's agency Office Ozawa and the anime's production committee discussed the issue, and came to their decision in consideration of Taneda's health. They added that the extended recording sessions of a television series may affect her recovery.

Taneda voiced the Erina character in the anime's first and second season. Kanemoto has already recovery last Friday, saying that she will "gradually" return to voice acting.

The new season is titled Shokugeki no Sōma: San no Sara (Food Wars! The Third Plate). The season will premiere this fall, and will follow the battle against the Council of Ten.

The following cast will return for the third season:

  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Sōma Yukihira
  • Akira Ishida as Eishi Tsukasa
  • Shizuka Itou as Rindō Kobayashi
  • Rie Kugimiya as Momo Akanegakubo
  • Kana Hanazawa as Nene Kinokuni
  • Yuuki Kaji as Terunori Kuga

Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's manga previously inspired two television anime series. The first anime season aired for 24 episodes from May to September 2015. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.

The 24th manga volume bundled the Jump Special Anime Festa event anime on DVD when it shipped on May 2. The 25th manga volume shipped on July 4, and it features some of the of the Council of Ten for the first time in the anime.
