The North American anime distributor Funimation has announced during its FuniCon 4.0 virtual online "convention" on Friday that it has licensed the Chrono Crusade, Gantz, Kaleido Star, and Peacemaker Kurogane anime series. All four titles were animated by Gonzo, and all four were formerly licensed by ADV Films.
Kaleido Star is an original 2003 Gonzo series about a young woman training to be an acrobat, consisting of 52 episodes and three OVAs, the last of which was released in 2006.
The 2003 TV anime Chrono Crusade was based on Daisuke Moriyama's 1998 manga published in Monthly Dragon Magazine and released in North America by ADV Manga. The anime spans 24 episodes.
Peacemaker Kurogane is a 24-episode 2003 adaptation of Nanae Chrono's Monthly Shōnen Gangan series of the same name; ADV Manga released the first two volumes of the manga in 2004, and Tokyopop rescued the manga in 2010.
Gantz is a 26-episode 2004 adaptation of Hiroya Oku's sci-fi thriller about two high school-age boys who seem to die, only to resurrect in order to play a deadly game. Dark Horse has released 11 volumes of the ongoing manga, and a pair of live-action Japanese films based on the series are currently in production.
