Miyazaki's The Wind Rises Earns 4.3 Billion Yen in 16 Days

Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's The Wind Rises film earned 4.3 billion yen ($44 million) from selling 3.5 million tickets during its first 16 days at the Japanese box office. The film has ranked number one for the past three weekends. Over this past weekend, the film made 555,596,900 yen (US$5,703,757.775) by selling 412,173 tickets.
In its first weekend, the film sold 747,451 tickets to earn 961 million yen (US$9.66 million) on 454 screens. It is expected to cross the 10 billion yen mark ($100 million yen).
The film stars former idol Miori Takimoto as Naoko Satomi, as well as Hidetoshi Nishijima, Masahiko Nishimura, Steve Alpert, Morio Kazama, Keiko Takeshita, Mirai Jita, Jun Kunimura, Shinobu Ōtake, and Mansai Nomura.
