Ghibli's Arrietty Earns US$14.3 Million After 2nd Weekend (UPDATED)

Ranks #10 for the weekend & is #6 highest-grossing anime film in U.S., after Ponyo

The Box Office Mojo website reports that The Secret World of Arrietty (Karigurashi no Arrietty) has earned US$4,351,115 during the February 24-26 weekend. In its second weekend in American theaters, Arrietty drops from #9 to #10 at the box office as it faces four new films. With 1,522 theaters, Arrietty had a per-screen average of US$2,859. Ticket sales dropped 32.5% from the first weekend.

With a current total of US$14,508,920, Arrietty is now the sixth highest grossing theatrical anime release in the United States. It has moved well ahead of #7's Ponyo (U$$15,090,399).

The number 1 film in the United States in weekend estimates is Act of Valor.

In his directorial debut, Yonebayashi giving the film the widest opening for a Studio Ghibli film in North America to date.
