Godzilla Opens at #8, Detective Conan Stays at #1

Crayon Shin-chan dropped to #10

Godzilla: Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi (Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle), the second film in the Godzilla anime film trilogy, opened last Friday in 158 theaters in Japan. The film ranked #8 in its opening weekend.

Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer had sold 1,289,000 tickets in its first three days to earn 1.67 billion yen ($15.6 million). The film's opening Saturday and Sunday sales represented 100.7% of the total that last year's TOHO aiming for the film to earn more than 8 billion yen ($71.9 million).

The kung-fu action film is set in a Chinatown named Aiyātown in Kusakabe, Saitama (the setting of the main series). Kimiko Ueno wrote the script.

The live-action Gundam release earned 22,460,900 more yen ($203,000) over the three days for a new total of 227,456,900 yen ($2.05 million).

As with previous films in the series, theaters screening the film are also selling a limited-edition Blu-ray Disc. The film also debuted online for a fee on the same day in Japan. streaming the film as five episodes.
