The Japanese television network TBS and producer Akihiko Ishimaru both denied last week's newspaper reports that claimed that a film version of the manga-based live-action Jin drama has been green-lit. The drama is inspired by Motoka Murakami's manga about a modern brain surgeon transported back in time to the Bakumatsu era, the period that spelled the end of the shoguns' rule over Japan.
On January 28, Nikkei Sports and other newspapers reported that a film version will begin shooting this summer for a theatrical release next year. However, TBS faxed an official comment to of the press, and said that a film adaptation has not been green-lit yet. TBS added that the newspaper reports were misinformed.
Ishimaru himself posted a note on the drama's official website, stating that there is no official news from the staff itself. However, he did acknowledge that the staff is exploring the possibility of future projects.
The drama has been a hit in Japan, where it has regularly shipped its 17th compiled volume last month.
