Sony to Skip Next Year's E3 Event

The Entertainment Software Association revealed in its announcement for its 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event that Sony will not attend.
Sony confirmed with Game Informer that it will not hold an off-site press conference around E3. The company explained that it is skipping E3 because it wants to "look for inventive opportunities to engage the community" and "innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers."
Sony previously cancelled this year's PlayStation Experience event. Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden commented at the time that the company "wouldn't have enough to bring people all together" to show for the event. The company has held the event in early December for four years.
Major game companies such as Sony, share major news about projects through press conferences.
Sony's PlayStation 4 console has Kenichiro Yoshida told Financial Times in October that "it's necessary to have a next-generation hardware."
