The all-female idol group Yasushi Akimoto, will not only appear in the Japanese release of the film, but in the film's worldwide release including in the United States. This will mark the first time an original song by a Japanese artist will be used as an ending theme for the global release of a Disney film.
Producer Clark Spencer said about the song, "We've always thought of Sugar Rush—with its nod to anime—as a game that may have originated in Japan. So we went to Japan and got the hottest J-pop group to perform the song that really sets the tone for this '90s-era cart-racing game: young and hip."
The film, directed by Rich Moore and featuring the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Lynch, will open in the United States on November 2. Yahoo! posted a new trailer for the film on Wednesday.
Disney and Pixar previously Perfume's song "Polyrhythm" in its worldwide release of the film Cars 2 last year.
