Fans Recreate Classic Zelda in 3D for 30th Anniversary; Nintendo Takes it Down

Developers Mike McGee and Scott Lininger created an ode to franchise's 30th anniversary. The result was is a browser game that took the original pixel art from the NES game and brought it into a 3D world.


Unfortunately, the game didn't get to stay up very long. Nintendo asked the creators to remove the game for copyright infringement not long after its launch. Approximately half a million players got to try out the game before it was taken down. You can see an entire playthrough below.
McGee and Lininger plan to relaunch the browser game without any Nintendo IP in the future.
A fan-made Metal Gear remake met a similar closed by Nintendo in February.
