2009 film returns with new sequences, different ending in Tokyo, Osaka in January

The Japanese production company Yoshinobu Nishizaki.

The original 1974 anime (dubbed and partly rewritten in English as Star Blazers) recounted the voyages of the World War II battleship Yamato after it is resurrected in 2199 as a space-faring ship to fend off alien threats to Earth. Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection is set in the year 2220, 17 years after the battleship Yamato went down in the Sea of Aquarius. A rebuilt Yamato rises to save humanity and face an unprecedented threat.

The animators of the space opera sequel created two different endings, and 4,000 viewers at an exclusive preview screening voted on which ending would be used in the original 2009 theatrical print. According to a member of the production team, the difference between the two versions is that one has the title spaceship Yamato defying fate, while the other has Yamato accepting fate.

A separate opened in Japan last December.

Bandai Visual had announced that the Blu-ray Disc and DVD release of Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection would have both endings, but then it delayed the home video release and cancelled the inclusion of both endings.
