Moribito's Nahoko Uehashi Wins Hans Christian Andersen Author Award

Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit fantasy anime series, won the 2014 Hans Christian Andersen Author Award on Monday.
The International Board on Books for Young People awards the Hans Christian Andersen Awards to one author and one illustrator every two years for making a large contribution to children's literature. Uehashi is the second Japanese recipient of the Author Award after Michio Mado in 1994. Suekichi Akaba (Suho's White Horse) and Mitsumasa Anno won the Andersen Illustrator Award in 1980 and 1984, respectively.
Uehashi said to interviewers, "I have wanted my books to be read by both children and adults alike, so I am very happy to learn that my stories pulled at the heartstrings of readers overseas." Uehashi is a cultural anthropologist and she uses her knowledge to create well-rounded fantasy worlds within her works.

Uehashi NHK-Educational channel premiered Production I.G's anime version of the first two novels in 2009.
