The anime will debut first on the Niconico streaming service later that evening. Instead of the Hanamonogatari anime itself, character commentaries from the earlier Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases premiered on television on May 31 and will run for five straight weeks. Fans voted for which character commentaries will air.

Kaori Mizuhashi will return to play their characters Suruga Kanbaru and Ougi Oshino.

The Monogatari Series Second Season anime began airing in Japan last July, and the original run of the series ended in December. Nekomonogatari (Black) and Monogatari Series Second Season.
