Nintendo, Philips End Motion-Sensing Patent Dispute

Companies agree to share patent portfolios

Philips resolved its patent litigation against Nintendo after reaching an agreement on Tuesday. The Dutch technology company was proceeding with patent infringement cases against the Japanese gaming company in , Great Britain, , and the United States over Nintendo consoles' gesture-tracking and motion systems.

Both companies decided to cross-license portions of their respective patent portfolios. Philips had already won an infringement case against Nintendo in Great Britain in June and had planned to continue proceedings in the three other jurisdictions. The company did not reveal any financial details regarding the settlement with Nintendo.

Nintendo previously Sony Corporation employee and inventor Seijiro Tomita on his patent for 3D technology.
