Star Wars Tops Yo-kai Watch in Ticket Sales & Box Office Totals in 3rd Weekend

Star Wars: The Force Awakens ranked #1 in weekend ticket sales for the first time in three weekends in Japan. It also ranked #1 in actual money earned at the box office for the third straight weekend. It sold 521,980 tickets in 368 theaters for 826,655,600 yen ($6.9407 million). In 17 days since opening on December 18, it has sold 4.14 million tickets for 6.3998 billion yen (US$53.78 million).
As a result, Big Hero 6, which eventually earned more money.
The live-action Orange manga maintained its #3 ranking in its fourth weekend on 302 theaters. It sold 136,711 tickets for 168,658,900 yen (1.417 million yen) during the weekend for a new grand total of over 2 billion yen.
Chibi Maruko-chan manga in 23 years, stayed at #6 on 231 theaters in its second weekend.
The Girls und Panzer film rose from #13 to #9 in its seventh weekend on 77 theaters.
The film fell from #7 to #10 in its fourth weekend on 292 theaters.
The film dropped from #9 off the chart in its fifth weekend.
