When Marnie Was There, The Boy and The Beast Shut Out of Annie Awards

nominated for the Best Animated Feature-Independent award, but Filme de Papel's Boy and the World film won the award.
In addition When Marnie Was There's Pixar Animation Studios' Inside Out film. The directing award went to Pete Docter for Inside Out. Inside Out also won the award for Best Animated Feature.
ASIFA-Hollywood added the Best Animated Feature-Independent category this year in order to "recognize not only features in wide release, but also the independent animators, international studios, anime and special productions that might not otherwise get the attention they deserve."
Studio Ghibli co-founder Geoffrey Wexler, head of international for Studio Ghibli, accepted the award on his behalf.
Studio Ghibli and Isao Takahata's did not win.
