Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare Film Earns 5 Billion Yen, Sets Franchise Record

20th film in franchise sells 3,982,700 tickets in 23 days

Detective Conan: Junkoku no Nightmare (film, has earned approximately 5.057 billion yen ($47 million) as of Sunday, setting a new record high for the film franchise. The film has sold about 3,982,700 tickets in the 23-day period from its opening on April 16 to May 8.

The 2015 film Detective Conan: Gōka no Himawari (Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno) held the previous record, with 4.48 billion yen ($41.6 million) in box-office earnings.

The anime film franchise now exceeds 60 billion yen ($557.6 million) in total box-office earnings.

Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare sold 933,800 tickets for 1.209 billion yen ($11.1 million) to top the Japanese box office in its opening weekend, and earning the highest opening weekend gross in the franchise's history.

The film features of the story's Black Organization who have previously appeared in the series: Gin, Vodka, Vermouth, Chianti, Korn, Kir, and Bourbon. The film's website also hints at the appearance of Rum, who has never been shown in the series.
