Gundam 2005 Merchandise Lineup
Gundam Seed Returns with More Mobile Suit Excitement
Popular Toyline Begins Another Successful Year On Retail Shelves
NEW YORK, NY, February 20, 2005 – The legendary Gundam property returns with toys and action figures based on its 26-year history in its native Japan. First introduced to the United States market six years ago, Gundam has proved an international phenomenon, and Bandai America Incorporated is expanding its reach with an extension of its Gundam Seed toyline.
Based on the Japanese series of the same name, Gundam Seed is different from many past Gundam incarnations due to its stand-alone storyline, making it ideal for new fans to discover the franchise. Currently the number one brand for Bandai Japan, Gundam Seed continues the property's strong legacy.
“Gundam has been an international powerhouse for over 25 years,” said Bill Beebe, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Bandai America Inc. “The keys to its success are intricate storylines, amazing animation and technological designs that push the envelope. Our dynamic toyline brings Gundam to life for the legions of fans worldwide.”
The Gundam Seed series begins a year after the outbreak of war between the Earth Alliance and the rebel space colonists known as Zaft. Radical new technologies, including advanced weapons called mobile suits, gave Zaft the edge over the Earth Alliance. With much of Earth now under the space colonist's control, the Alliance begins a desperate secret program to develop its own state-of-the-art mobile suits. Thus, Gundam Seed is born.
Bandai America's Gundam Seed assortment features an expanded lineup of the popular battle-scarred action figures and the action figure model kits that have anchored the brand since its U.S. inception six years ago. Popular characters from past Gundam series will also be released throughout the year in an array of sizes, ensuring there is something for every fan's taste. Bandai America's card division also plans expansions to its recently released Gundam War collectible card game later in the year.
Gundam Seed currently airs Saturdays on Zeta Gundam and Gundam Seed: Never Ending Tomorrow. For information on Gundam Seed, please visit the official Gundam website at www.Gundamofficial.com.
