Gareth Edwards' Godzilla Makes Oscars' Visual Effects Shortlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released its short list of films contending for an Oscar nomination in the Visual Effects category on Friday. film made the list alongside nine other films. The full list includes:

• Captain America: The Winter Soldier
• Godzilla
• The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
• Interstellar
• Maleficent
• Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb
• Transformers: Age of Extinction
• X-Men: Days of Future Past
• Guardians of the Galaxy
• Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Edwards' Godzilla film told Variety in May, “Our initial goal was to re-brand and re-establish the property in a Tiffany way. Now, we're trying to take in all of the results of [opening] weekend.”

Writer sequel, slated to open on June 8, 2018.
