About:
Interpreter, translator, and author, Frederik L. Schodt has contributed a variety of talents to the manga community. Fred's interest in manga began in 1970 as a university student in Tokyo when he and several friends ed (successfully) Tezuka Productions for permission to translate the Phoenix comic into English. The resulting friendship helped Fred to develop as a translator and writer. Later, Schodt donated time to the Tezuka-sponsored Japanese Artist Exchange Program, and Tezuka even wrote an introduction to Schodt's first book, Manga Manga.
Since 1983 Schodt has authored five books, translated several novels and manga, and contributed hundreds of articles and columns to Mainichi Daily News, Japan Times, Anzen, Mangajin, Japan Related, Animag, Animerica, and many others. Schodt claims his two greatest inspirations to be Leiji Matsumoto and Masamune Shirow.
