Oshii Serves Up Female Tachigui Sequel This November
posted on by Egan Loo
In addition to Mamoru Oshii will co-direct a November 2007 sequel to his Tachigui live-action/animation hybrid movie with four other acclaimed directors. Unlike the first Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters with its mostly male leads, Shin Onna-Tachiguishi Retsuden (True Female Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters) will feature women on the edges of society who survive by eating for free at street food vendors.
The seed of the project came from the first Tachigui anthology's DVD spinoff short on Foxy Croquette O-Gin, a "Female Fast Food Grifter" played by Macross Plus's Sharon Apple). The new feature-length anthology will add five more short films, roughly 20 minutes each. Like the first anthology, the stories will be part of the larger Kerberos saga that connects many of Oshii's films and novels together.
Oshii conceived the original stories and will supervise the overall project, but unlike on the first anthology, Oshii will only direct two of the shorts. The remaining four shorts will be directed by Oshii's colleagues: live-action Death Note movies) will once again contribute the soundtrack.
Geneon Entertainment are producing the anthology for late-night theatrical showings starting November 2007 in Japan.
